Dear Claire I only received my pack from you following Mum’s funeral at the weekend and this is the first chance I’ve had to email you as I was working in London yesterday. Dear Claire I’m sure you and I share the same thought, how well Thursday’s Funeral went. The whole affair was uncluttered, smooth and with strong feelings. So many people came to see me after the event saying what an unusual funeral and how much more they had learned about him. Many thanks for the part you played in conducting the service. I think between us and funeral directors , that we did him proud. As you say, the sun came out for the burial. You may not have noticed, as you were busy at the graveside, but a light aircraft came buzzing over, saw the funeral and cut his engine to drift over in silence. I just wanted to say thank you so much for a lovely service today. It went off really well and even the sun shone making it a super send off for Mum. The Eulogy was beautiful. Up until that point I had felt quite calm and composed but hearing you tell our mum's story made me cry. Not so much tears of sadness but tears of joy, thinking what a wonderful life she had had, and I felt so incredibly blessed to have had her in my life for as long as I did. We have received messages from some of the family in South Africa tonight saying what an amazing service it was. One cousin even saying he'd learnt quite a bit that he'd not known before today. So glad they could join in. We even had cousins on my dad's side join in from Melbourne who we didn't know were going to until the last minute especially with the time difference. Thanks again. You made it a very special send off and we hope that Mum approved of all our choices!! I do hope you get out to SA soon. Its a beautiful country and I have to say the garden route is particularly stunning. You won't be disappointed!! Very best wishes

"Dear Claire, I haven’t the words to express my joy at opening the thick envelope that arrived today containing his full Order of Service. It is so beautiful. I am speechless. I thank you with all my heart. From the moment you came to see us before the funeral, we knew we were welcoming a friend into the house. We shared many memories and we were all laughing as we told you all about him. You captured exactly what he wanted said at the funeral and you did it brilliantly. I am hoping that he was looking down because I know he would say that no-one could have done it better. He would be so proud of you. Also, what foresight you had to suggest his watercolour of the remote old cottage would make a brilliant backdrop in the Order of Service. Again everyone said it was the best they have ever seen. I wish now that I ordered more copies. I didn’t realise how many people would come. For the last fortnight I have sang your praises and I cannot thank you enough for making it happen. Everyone who came to see me in the tearoom remarked that it was a lovely service and how well you did it. A friend whom I hadn’t seen for years came to see me the day after the funeral. She is a singer in a choir (not just local choirs). She sat down and said ‘You know that I am religious don’t you ? I have sang at well over a hundred funerals. I can honestly say that his funeral was the best, the loveliest funeral that I have ever been to. I wish I could have gathered many, many ministers so that they could see for themselves what a wonderful funeral it was and how it should be’. Praise indeed from someone who acknowledges how well you did. Oh Claire, what a beautiful card you enclosed- a watercolour of a goldfinch! You put so much thought into everything you do. My gosh! How he would have approved! You cannot fault perfection! I am sending you all my love, all my hugs, and my thanks for making his funeral so perfect. I will never forget what you achieved. It feels like you have always known the two of us and you got into our hearts. Claire, thank you so very, very much."
